Chelsea Buns

The smell of warm Chelsea just doesn't get any better. This is such an easy recipe, I make it at least twice a week for the kiddos and they just love it! This recipe does not have egg in. I know that the recipe seems long and it looks a bit overwhelming, but it truly is so easy to make and it is always a winner! Make it for afternoon coffee, children snacks or just because.....

What you need:

For Step 1

3 Cups All Purpose Flour

1 Packet Instant Yeast

4 TBSP Sugar

1/2 tsp Salt

1 Cup Milk

100g Margarine or butter

For Step 2

3-4 TBSP Brown Sugar

3 TBSP Margarine or Butter (softened)

1 - 2Tsp Cinnamon (depends how much you like cinnamon)

60g Saltanas (Your choice, you don't have to add this)

For Step 3

60 - 80g Icing Sugar

Milk (Sufficient to mix with icing sugar to form a smooth, this paste)

Step 1

- Warm milk and margarine. Margarine does not have to melt, milk should just be warm (not

too hot)

- Mix dry ingredients together and add the warm milk / margarine mixture.

- Kneed for approximately 7 - 9 minutes until the dough is soft, smooth and pliable.

- Place the dough in a mixing bowl, cover with a clean cloth and leave it to rise for about 1 -

2 hours (or until double in size).

Step 2

- Once the dough has risen, remove it from the mixing bowl and place it on a work surface

prepared with flour.

- Roll the dough out into a rectangle, about 1.5 cm thick

- Mix the softened margarine or butter, brown sugar and cinnamon together. Sprinkle with

sultanas if you want to include this.

- Spread the mixture over the rolled-out dough.

- Starting at the long end, roll the dough into a tight cylinder.

- Slice the cylinder in approximately 3.5 to 4 cm slices.

- Prepare your Swift Baker Ringpan with Non-Stick Spray.

- Add the sliced pieces into the Ringpan and leave space in-between the slices to allow

them to rise.

- Cover the ringpan with a clean cloth and allow to rise in a warm place again until double in

- Once the dough has doubled in size, place the ringpan on your Swift Baker Base, Cover

with the dome and open your gas to medium heat.

- Bake for approximately 20 to 25 minutes (depending on your gas appliances)

The Chelsea Buns are done when a knife comes our clean.

Allow to cool in the ringpan for approximately 5 minutes.

Step 3

- Remove the Chelse Buns from the Ringpan

- Mix the icing sugar and milk together to form a paste and pour over the Chelsea Buns.
